Rhyme & Reason

I wanted to share one of my favourite hiphop documentaries: Rhyme & Reason. The documentary is set in the mid-nineties, hiphop was growing rapidly and was about to enter the mainstream. The video is described as: "This movie came out on the tail end of the Hip Hop Golden era". This movie covers many aspects of the hiphop culture such as: DJ-ing, breakdancing and MC-ing. Many hiphop-legends share their views like: KRS-One, Chuck D, Heavy D, Ice-T and Dr. Dre. There's a segment in it about the 'Jack the Rapper' festival where many hiphopartists come together to network, talk, discuss, party and smoke weed. It's my favourite part cause for some reason I feel this is no longer possible this day in age. I mean if I watch the 'Beef' docu's 1 through 4, I see two nobodies without skills nagging, bitching and acting tough to each other. Their sole qualification to be part of hiphop is the fact that they have...beef. Who doesn't? Get over it and get back to or start making some...music.

Slaughtering Hip Hop

Listen up!

Here are some tracks from Slaughterhouse. Slaghterhouse is a collabo between Joe Budden, Royce Da 59, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I. They had a single called 'Move On' which sparked my interest because I hardly hear lyricism lately. I'm getting really sick listening to a 3 minute track consisting of a minimalistic beat (lacking rhythm), maybe two 16 bar verses (if your lucky), and some chick who can't sing or a different moron who also can't rap repeating the one-line chorus about a 1000 times. People, people, I don't have to like every hiphop track but at least put some effort in it. It's pathetic how many piles of horseshit you have to go thru before you find a decent hiphop-act. It's like Chris Rock said I wanna be able to 'break down intellectually' why I love hiphop. So I'm glad to hear these tracks from Slaughterhouse, their self-titled debut album will be released on July 7th.
